Bienal de Curitiba Expands with Satellite Exhibitions Across Brazil and Abroad
The 14th Bienal de Curitiba, inaugurated on September 21 with its main exhibition at the Museu Oscar Niemeyer, runs until March 1, 2020 under the theme 'Fronteiras em Aberto'. A network of parallel exhibitions has been launched in partner institutions across Brazil and internationally. In October alone, a dozen shows opened in Curitiba, including 'Nômades e Fronteiriços', 'Poema-Processo e Fluindo Naturalmente' at the Museu Municipal de Arte (MuMA), and 'Metáforas de Leopoldino de Abreu' at the Museu Guido Viaro. In Brasília, 'Yanbei: Uma Arte Agrilhoada' and 'Contraforte' debuted at the Espaço Cultural Renato Russo. Florianópolis hosts the collective exhibition 'Rudis Materia' at the Museu da Escola Catarinense – MESC, linked to the Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina (UDESC), alongside the video art collective show 'Intersecções com a Paisagem' at O Sítio. Further exhibitions in the capital of Santa Catarina include 'Panorâmicas do Desejo' at the Galeria Municipal de Arte Pedro Paulo Vecchietti, 'Florestas de Juliana Hoffmann' at the Memorial Meyer Filho, and 'almacorpoterramar' at the Espaço Cultural Armazém (Coletivo Elza). The biennial's reach extends beyond Brazil to Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, France, Switzerland, and Russia, with additional shows scheduled for November and December.
