Bic creates new blue ink color named after Italian artist Giuseppe Stampone
Italian artist Giuseppe Stampone (born in Cluses, France, 1974, based between Rome and Brussels) has been granted his own custom blue ink color by Bic, the French pen manufacturer founded in Clichy in 1945 by Marcel Bich. The new shade, called "Blu Giuseppe Stampone," follows in the tradition of Yves Klein's blue and Anish Kapoor's Vantablack. The color is lighter than the standard Bic blue and will be produced exclusively for Stampone to create his artworks, with cartridges supplied for continuous refills. Stampone is known for his drawings, abecedaries, maps, and educational projects within the Global Education discourse, all executed with Bic pens. His work was included in a 2018 exhibition at Galerie 104 Paris featuring 150 works from the Bic collection, which includes pieces by Alberto Giacometti, René Magritte, Fernand Léger, Martin Parr, Mamadou Cissè, and Stampone. The collection now holds 250 pieces. Current CEO Bruno Bich noted how artists worldwide use Bic products as tools or inspiration. Stampone announced the new color on social media, debuting it with a post-production of Pino Pascali's "Vedova Blu" (1968). The color is not yet for sale.
