Bibo's Place Opens New Rome Space with 'Scuole Romane' Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Bibo's Place, a gallery founded in 2013 by Andrea Bizzarro and Matteo Boetti in Todi, Umbria, is opening a new venue in Rome on September 28, 2017. Located at Via Ulpiano 51, the 70-square-meter space was formerly a paint shop and includes a ground-floor area plus three mini basement rooms. The inaugural exhibition, titled 'Scuole Romane,' pays homage to Roman art movements from the 1940s to today, including the Scuole di Via Cavour, Piazza del Popolo, and San Lorenzo. Featured works include Fausto Pirandello's 'Scena Bucolica' (1929), Mario Mafai's 'Veduta di Roma,' Franco Gentilini's 'Le Streghe sopra New York,' and Franco Angeli's 'Half Dollar' (1966), along with pieces by Schifano, Dessì, Tirelli, and others. The show also includes a site-specific intervention by Andrea Aquilanti and a new work by Leonardo Petrucci. Matteo Boetti, son of the renowned artist Alighiero Boetti, had previously run a gallery in Rome from 2002 to 2008 under the names Autori Cambi and Studio Matteo Boetti. The new Rome space will host shorter exhibitions (max six weeks), while the Todi gallery will continue with two major shows per year. The opening follows recent gallery arrivals in Rome, including Emanuel Layr in December 2016 and ADA by Rolando Anselmi and Carla Chiarchiaro on September 27, 2017.
