Biblioteca Busmanti opens at Palazzo Bentivoglio in Bologna on October 13, 2024

On October 13, 2024, Palazzo Bentivoglio in Bologna will inaugurate the Biblioteca Busmanti, a library dedicated to art historian Eugenio Busmanti, whose book collection and art fund have been acquired. The library faithfully reconstructs the atmosphere of Busmanti's former home on Via Marsala 20, a meeting place for artists and intellectuals. The space features contemporary art interventions, including Sophie Ko's 'Geografia Temporale. Rondello' (2021), works by Nicola Melinelli, and pieces by Elmgreen & Dragset, blending with the baroque architecture. Busmanti, originally from Lugo di Romagna, studied at the University of Bologna alongside Vittorio Sgarbi. He died in November 2018, leaving a collection focused on the late 18th century, Neoclassicism, and interior decoration, including works by Filippo de Pisis, Antonio Cavallucci, Pier Dandini, and two 16th-century paintings by Andrea Donducci (il Martelletta) bequeathed to the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna on November 20, 2019. The library is open to students and art lovers by appointment.
