Bari launches its first biennale, Bibart, opening December 15 at 6 PM. The event features 156 artists (list undisclosed) and 328 works across painting, sculpture, graphics, video art, and non-competition pieces. A core group of historical masters from a major collection includes Cézanne, Miró, Rosai, Archipenko, and Boccioni, shown in the exhibition "Dal Postimpressionismo al Neorealismo: viaggio tra le avanguardie del Novecento." A monographic show, "Les danseuses," by William Tode, the last exponent of Italian neorealism, is also presented. The biennale is a diffuse route reopening churches in Bari Vecchia, starting from the Museo Diocesano, and involving local associations in partnership with local institutions. Directed by Miguel Gomez, who also has a solo show, the event is a competition themed "La Ragione dell'Uomo." Nine countries participate: Italy, Argentina, Armenia, Brazil, Croatia, France, Greece, Iraq, Uruguay. Ten venues are involved, including reopened churches in the old town and symbolic sites in the Murattiano district.
