Bianco – Valente's QR Code Art Connects Ercolano Community

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Italian artist duo Bianco – Valente (Giovanna Bianco and Pino Valente) have created 'Connecting Code', a participatory public art project in Ercolano, winner of the Creative Living Lab V grant curated by Benedetta Carpi de Resmini. The project involves site-specific interventions across Ruana, Resina, and Piazza Carlo di Borbone, culminating in the diffused artwork 'Seconda mano' on September 20, 2024. A QR code embedded in the work will play audio recordings from community participants. The installation includes a mosaic made from ceramics donated by residents, inspired by the Archaeological Park and the Basilica of Pugliano, with colors referencing vintage clothing sold at the Resina market. In Piazza Carlo di Borbone, a knot installation references a votive image of the Madonna dell'Arco, symbolizing connection. The artists expressed surprise at the community's warmth and energy, contrasting their initial expectations. A final event on September 20 will unveil a new public space overlooking the archaeological park and the Gulf of Naples, accompanied by an artist's book.
