Bianco-Valente's 'Freiraum Napoli' Explores Public Space and Freedom

The artist duo Bianco-Valente, collaborating with urbanist Fabio Landolfo, created a 3-minute documentary titled 'Freiraum Napoli' as part of the Goethe-Institut's international project 'Freiraum,' which involves 38 European cities exploring the concept of freedom. The film addresses how the idea of free space can be interpreted in Naples, given its high population density and limited public areas, especially in the historic center. Shot and edited by Andrea Valentino and Rosario D'Angelo for Labirinto Visivo, the short premiered at the POLIN Museum in Warsaw in December 2017 during an international meeting organized by the Goethe-Institut. On February 15, 2018, it will be screened at Riot Studio in Naples (Via San Biagio dei Librai 39) as part of a public debate. Participants include architect Antonio Martiniello and actress Valentina Acca. The event is a step toward a full-length documentary on Naples, planned for early 2019, also by Bianco-Valente and Landolfo. During production, the artists will meet Yasser Almaanmoun, a Syrian architect and curator of the Freiraum project at the Goethe-Institut Amsterdam, as Naples is twinned with Amsterdam for an exchange of ideas on freedom.
