Bi Gan's 'Resurrection' Explores Dreamless World in Third Feature

Chinese director Bi Gan's third feature film 'Resurrection' (2025) presents a world where humans have lost the ability to dream, until a woman discovers a monster-like being that can still experience dreams. She enters his mind to uncover truths about her country, humanity, and herself, blurring reality and the dreamlike. The film runs 160 minutes and stars Jackson Yee, Shu Qi, and Mark Chao, with cinematography by Dong Jinsong. Produced by Dangmai Films, Huace Pictures, CG Cinema, and Arte Francia Cinema, it is a China-France co-production distributed by Madfer Films and Filmin. Bi Gan previously won Best New Director at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards and Best First Feature at Locarno Festival for his 2015 debut 'Kaili Blues'. His 2017 film 'Long Day's Journey Into Night' featured a 59-minute 3D single take. He is among few Chinese auteurs generating significant box office with independent cinema.
