Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Doom Soundtrack Added to National Recording Registry

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-16

The Library of Congress has added 25 recordings to the National Recording Registry, including Taylor Swift's album 1989, Beyoncé's single "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)", and the soundtrack from the video game Doom. Announced on May 14, 2026, the selections span seven decades, from Spike Jones and His City Slickers' 1944 single "Cocktails for Two" to Swift's 2014 album. The Doom soundtrack, composed by Bobby Prince, becomes only the third video game music inclusion, following Minecraft (2024) and Super Mario Bros. (2023). The registry now holds 700 titles since its establishment in 2000. Other notable additions include Rosanne Cash's The Wheel, marking the first father-daughter duo (with Johnny Cash's At Folsom Prison), and José Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad". The 2026 class was chosen from over 3,000 public nominations, with Weezer's The Blue Album among the most nominated. Recordings must be at least ten years old to qualify.
