Betty Danon's Rainbowland Exhibition in Naples

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Galleria Tiziana Di Caro in Naples presents 'For the grey days only', the fourth exhibition of Betty Danon (Istanbul, 1927 – Milan, 2022), curated by Tiziana Di Caro. The show revolves around Rainbowland, a magical world invented by Danon in 1976 as a fairy tale for her correspondent Amelia Etlinger, who suffered from night terrors and insomnia. The exhibition unfolds across three rooms: the first features a 1977 A4 sheet with the word 'rainbow' repeated in black, a larger work with overlapping colored lines, and the book 'Rainbowland' (1980) containing private photos, words, objects, and imaginary items like honorary citizenship for Albert Einstein (no. 100401) and a homage to Rimbaud. The second room displays four wall-mounted works with superimposed writing and a leporello where color and sound intertwine. The third room presents white in-folios such as 'Concentrazione sul colore rosso dell’arcobaleno', 'Concentrazione sul colore blu dell’arcobaleno', and 'Concentrazione sul colore viola dell’arcobaleno', along with five small works where writing becomes automatic and psychic gesture. Danon described Rainbowland as a poetic symbol of the 'other' place, a password to cross the threshold of the absurd and magical.
