Bettina Korek Named CEO of Serpentine Galleries, Succeeding Yana Peel

institutional · 2026-04-20

Bettina Korek will become CEO of the Serpentine Galleries in March 2020, leaving her position as executive director of Frieze Los Angeles. Her appointment follows the departure of former CEO Yana Peel in June 2019. Korek had been with Frieze for one year, during which she managed the launch of the Los Angeles edition of the art fair. The announcement was made on 10 December 2019. A clarification issued on 18 February 2020 stated that Yana Peel was not involved in the operations or decisions of the Novalpina Capital investment fund managed by her husband Stephen Peel. The clarification noted that Peel only holds a small, indirect, and passive interest in the fund and does not own any stake in Novalpina Capital entities or NSO Group. This followed the removal of a Guardian newspaper article from 14 June 2019 and an apology to Peel after a legal complaint. The Serpentine Galleries, a prominent London institution, will now be led by Korek as it moves forward from this leadership transition.
