Bettina Buck's Sculptures of Time and Relationships at Palazzo De' Toschi

A solo exhibition of German artist Bettina Buck (Cologne, 1974 – Berlin, 2018) titled 'Finding Form' is on view at Palazzo De' Toschi in Bologna, curated by the Banca di Bologna. The show spans two rooms and features fifteen small bronze works cast from latex foam impressions of intimate moments spent at friends' homes, capturing ephemeral traces of affection. Six of these are displayed in corners, evoking the process of their creation. The exhibition centers on two videos: 'Interlude,' documenting a solitary walk in the English countryside referencing landscape painting, and 'Another Interlude,' set in the Galleria Nazionale di Roma, where Buck interacts with visitors and artworks. In both, she drags a foam parallelepiped that shifts meaning between sculpture, burden, and seat. Other works include '3 Upright,' three tile blocks mounted on canvas with latex that gradually deform and collapse under gravity over the course of the show, revealing the fragility of matter and the passage of time. Buck's practice explores performative and relational dynamics between art, body, and temporality.
