Beth Letain's Minimalist Biology at Peres Projects Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Canadian artist and biologist Beth Letain (b. 1976) presents 'Bring the Ground to You', her third exhibition with Peres Projects and the first in their new Milan venue at Palazzo Belgioioso. The show features 11 new works that mark a departure from her earlier style, employing dense, vivid colors mixed from pure pigments and binders with no white, completely covering the gesso ground. Her minimalist compositions, inspired by cellular processes like mitosis, use spontaneous, unruled lines that echo Barnett Newman's 'zips' but reveal the vulnerability of imperfect gesture. Letain describes this phase as 'walking through my mysterious valley.' The exhibition runs at Peres Projects, Piazza Belgioioso, Milan, in 2023.
