Beth Gibbons Returns with Tony Oursler-Directed Video

Beth Gibbons, frontwoman of Portishead, announces her debut solo album 'Lives Outgrown' after a 15-year hiatus. The album, set for release on May 17, features ten tracks compiled over a decade of work. It was produced by James Ford, known for collaborations with Kylie Minogue, Depeche Mode, Blur, and Gorillaz. The lead single 'Floating on a Moment' is accompanied by a music video directed by Tony Oursler, an American artist renowned for his unsettling multimedia installations. Oursler's video employs a hallucinatory visual style spanning CGI from the 1990s to recent AI experiments and kitsch GIF aesthetics, creating a jarring contrast with the song's harmony. This is not Oursler's first foray into music; he previously created 'Synesthesia' interview series (1997–2001) featuring Kim Gordon, Genesis P-Orridge, and Arto Lindsay, and directed David Bowie's 'Where Are We Now?' video in 2013. He also produced sculptures for Bowie's 'Little Wonder' video directed by Floria Sigismondi in 1997. Gibbons' last major release was the 2008 Portishead album 'Third', and she featured on Kendrick Lamar's 'Mother I Sober' in 2022. Her previous solo work includes 2002's 'Out of Season' with Rustin Man and a 2009 live album with Henryk Górecki and Krzysztof Penderecki.
