architecture-design · 2026-04-21

Dutch design brand Bert Plantagie and architecture studio Mecanoo have unveiled Macaron, a modular sofa system inspired by the French pastry. The collection launches at Masterly during Milan design week in April 2026. Designed with curved, layered forms that playfully reference the macaron confection, the system features wooden frames in walnut or oak and bio-based textiles in multiple colors. Its modular construction allows various configurations for diverse settings including homes, offices, airports, universities, and museums. Six different arrangements will be displayed at the Milan showcase to demonstrate versatility. The designers emphasize flexibility and future adaptability as core principles, enabling users to mix pieces for customized environments. Macaron modules can be joined or used independently, united by chunky silhouettes and curved edges.
