Bernardino Palazzi's Illustrations for Tasso and Casanova on View in Sardinia
In a dual-venue exhibition titled “Bernardino Palazzi. Le illustrazioni per La Gerusalemme liberata e Casanova,” the Fondazione di Sardegna showcases two series of illustrations by Bernardino Palazzi (1907–1986) in Cagliari and Sassari. Associated with the Novecento Italiano movement and Margherita Sarfatti's circle, Palazzi produced these works in 1970: pastel drawings for Giacomo Casanova's “Storia della mia vita” and tempera paintings for Torquato Tasso's “La Gerusalemme Liberata.” The Casanova series features hundreds of plates that convey the protagonist's melancholy and ambiguity without eroticism, while the Tasso series merges literature and visual art through Realismo Magico, employing tempera for structural purposes. Roberta Vanali is the exhibition's curator, and Palazzi also worked with Corriere della Sera and other publications.
