The 2015 Käthe Kollwitz Prize has been awarded to Bernard Frize, a French artist born in 1954 in Saint-Mandé, who currently splits his residence between Paris and Berlin. This annual accolade, which carries a monetary value of 12,000 Euros, was established in 1960 by the Berlin Academy of Arts to honor the legacy of German artist Käthe Kollwitz. This year's selection committee featured Academy members Ayşe Erkmen, Mona Hatoum, and Karin Sander. The award ceremony is scheduled for 10 September 2015, with an exhibition of Frize's work following from 11 September to 25 October. A catalogue will accompany the exhibition. In 2011, Frize was honored with the Fred Thieler Prize for Painting from the Berlinischen gallery, and his artworks are included in prominent collections such as the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris and MOCA in Los Angeles.
