Berlinale 2023 Opens with Rebecca Miller's 'She Came to Me' Starring Anne Hathaway

The 73rd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) opened on February 16, 2023, with the world premiere of 'She Came to Me,' an independent romantic comedy directed by Rebecca Miller. The film features a Hollywood cast including Anne Hathaway, who also produced the project, alongside Peter Dinklage, Marisa Tomei, Joanna Kulig, and Evan Ellison. The story follows an opera composer experiencing creative block, his wife obsessed with order and cleanliness, and a quirky tugboat captain who disrupts their lives. Set in New York, the multigenerational narrative explores adult crises and neuroses. Miller, daughter of playwright Arthur Miller, described the film as 'an exploration of love in all its forms,' born from the fear of creative stagnation. She adapted it from her own short story, adding subplots about young lovers and a woman's secret relationship with God. Berlinale directors Mariëtte Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian called the film 'a magical ode to freedom of expression.' Dinklage, known for 'Game of Thrones' and 'Cyrano,' reflected on his career at 53, stating he questions whether to continue acting for another 30 years and finds inspiration in writing. The film will be distributed in Italy by Universal Pictures.
