Berlinale 2023: 73rd Edition Lineup, Spielberg Honorary Golden Bear
The 73rd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) runs from February 16 to 26, 2023, fully in-person, led by executive director Mariette Rissenbeek and artistic director Carlo Chatrian. Kristen Stewart serves as jury president. The festival will award an honorary Golden Bear for lifetime achievement to Steven Spielberg, with a tribute and screening of his latest film The Fabelmans at the Berlinale Palast. In competition, 19 films vie for the Golden Bear, including Disco Boy by Giacomo Abbruzzese (the sole Italian entry), Afire by Christian Petzold, and Ingeborg Bachmann – Journey into the Desert by Margarethe von Trotta. The Berlinale Special section features Infinity Pool by Brandon Cronenberg and Golda starring Helen Mirren as Golda Meir. Opening film is She Came To Me by Rebecca Miller. Notable documentaries include Superpower by Sean Penn and Aaron Kaufman on the Russia-Ukraine war. Italian presence includes Mario Martone's Laggiù qualcuno mi ama and Andrea Di Stefano's L'ultima notte di Amore in Special, and Stefano Savona's The Walls of Bergamo in the documentary section. The series lineup includes The Good Mothers by Julian Jarrold and Elisa Amoruso.
