Berlinale 2020: Golden Bear to 'There Is No Evil', Elio Germano Wins Best Actor
The 70th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) awarded its Golden Bear to Mohammad Rasoulof's 'There Is No Evil', a film about capital punishment shot clandestinely in Iran without authorization. Elio Germano won the Silver Bear for Best Actor for his portrayal of Italian painter Antonio Ligabue in Giorgio Diritti's 'Volevo nascondermi' (Hidden Away). The Silver Bear for Best Actress went to Paula Beer for Christian Petzold's 'Undine', a modern retelling of the water spirit myth. The Silver Bear for Best Screenplay was awarded to Damiano and Fabio D'Innocenzo for 'Favolacce' (Bad Tales), their second feature. The D'Innocenzo brothers also won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize for 'Bad Tales'. Other winners include Hong Sang-soo for Best Director ('The Woman Who Ran'), Eliza Hittman's 'Never Rarely Sometimes Always' winning the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize, and Jurgen Jurges for Outstanding Artistic Contribution for cinematography in 'DAU. Natasha'. The festival also presented a Special Award for the 70th edition to 'Delete History' and 'The Works And Days'. The GWFF Best First Feature Award went to 'Los Conductos' by Camilo Restrepo. The Golden Bear for Best Short Film was awarded to 'T' by Keisha Rae Witherspoon. Carlo Chatrian served as the new artistic director of the Berlinale.
