Berlin's Urban Restructuring Debated at Pompidou Centre
In January 1993, the association Dialogue entre les cultures organized a symposium titled "Berlin, portrait de ville" at the Centre Georges-Pompidou in Paris. The event examined Berlin's transformation following German reunification. Architect and critic Bruno Flierl highlighted the contrast between Paris's grand architectural projects and those planned for Berlin. He argued that Berlin's challenge is not about isolated architectural operations but a fundamental restructuring of the urban fabric, as the city, divided for forty years, still does not function as a cohesive entity.
