Berlin's Berghain nightclub becomes temporary gallery with Studio Berlin exhibition
Berlin's legendary Berghain nightclub will temporarily transform into an art gallery starting September 9, presenting Studio Berlin, an exhibition featuring over 80 works created during pandemic lockdowns. The show includes photography, sculpture, painting, video, sound, performance, and installation pieces by Berlin-based artists. Notable participants include Wolfgang Tillmans, Anne Imhof, Olafur Eliasson, Tacita Dean, and Isa Genzken. Organized in collaboration with collectors Christian and Karen Boros of the Boros Foundation, the exhibition will be accessible through guided tours. Christian Boros noted that artists were in their studios rather than traveling, leading to significant artistic production during Berlin's frozen period. The exhibition offers visitors the unusual opportunity to bypass Berghain's notorious queues and strict door policy. The club had canceled all events in March due to COVID-19 regulations, briefly reopening last month for a sound installation by artist duo Tam-tam titled Eleven songs – Hall at Berghain.
