Berlin Remembers the Wall: Traces of Division 65 Years On
Berlin is marking the 65th anniversary of the Berlin Wall's erection. Significant locations include Bernauer Straße, where a 220-meter stretch of concrete serves as a tribute to those who leaped to flee, alongside the Gedenkstätte Bernauer Straße featuring a watchtower. Due to the border, the entrance to Gropius Bau was moved, and 200 meters of light gray concrete blocks still stand near the Topography of Terror. The Günter-Litfin-Gedenkstätte, created in 2003, pays tribute to Günter Litfin, who was shot on August 24, 1961. The East Side Gallery, the longest remaining segment at 1.3 kilometers, showcases murals such as Dmitri Vrubel's 'Bruderkuss.' Additional memorials include Bornholmer Brücke and the Parliament of Trees at Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus.
