Berlin Museum Delegation Travels to Mongolia for Genghis Khan Exhibition

A delegation from Berlin, including Matthias Wemhoff, director of the Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte, and press spokesman Timo Weißberg, traveled to Mongolia in June 2026 for a press trip ahead of the exhibition "Dschingis Khan und die Welt der Mongolen" (Genghis Khan and the World of the Mongols) at the James-Simon-Galerie on Berlin's Museum Island, running from October 21, 2026 to April 18, 2027. The group visited key historical sites including the former Mongol capital Karakorum, the Göktürk monuments at Khöshöö Tsaidam, the Uighur capital Karabalgasun, and the Chinggis Khaan National Museum in Ulaanbaatar. They met with museum director Chuluun Sampildondov and a nomadic family. The exhibition will feature loans from Mongolian institutions, exploring the legacy of the Mongol Empire and its impact on Eurasia. A companion book by Matthias Wemhoff and Gisela Graichen, titled "Genie, Barbar und Welteroberer – 800 Jahre Dschingis Khan," has been published by Ullstein.
