Berlin Modern Museum Completion Delayed by Eight Months Due to Moisture Damage
The completion of the Berlin Modern museum has been postponed by approximately eight months into 2030 due to moisture damage and microbial infestation in parts of the raw structure, according to a spokesperson for the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SPK). The museum, located near Potsdamer Platz, is designed by Herzog & de Meuron and will expand the Neue Nationalgalerie. Total costs are projected at €507 million, up from an initial €200 million. The first groundbreaking in 2019 anticipated completion in 2026; the topping-out ceremony last fall targeted 2029. No construction stop was ordered, and the Neue Nationalgalerie plans to use the building for art before the official opening.
