Berlin Gallery Wentrup Opens in Venice During 2024 Art Biennale

Berlin-based gallery Wentrup, founded in 2004, has opened a permanent space in Venice's Cannaregio district at Palazzo Grifalconi Loredan, the former atelier of fashion designer Giuliana Camerino (founder of Roberta di Camerino). The gallery, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024, now operates three locations: its original Kreuzberg space (since 2009), a second Berlin space in Charlottenburg (since 2020), a temporary project space in Hamburg (since 2021), and now Venice. The Venetian venue includes a studio-apartment for artist residencies and an exhibition space. It opened during the 2024 Venice Art Biennale with the group show "Capriccio," featuring works by Mary Ramsden, Anastasia Samoylova, Marion Verboom, and Enzo Cucchi (a pioneer of the Italian Transavanguardia). The gallery represents 22 artists. Director Lucia Longhi cited Venice's transformation, with international art lovers buying second homes, as a reason for the expansion. The gallery aims to engage with the Biennale, private museums, and public institutions, catering to both residents and international visitors.
