Berlin Gallery Weekend May 2020 Canceled, Rescheduled to September

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Berlin Gallery Weekend, originally planned for May 1-3, 2020, has been called off. Since its inception in 2004, the event was expected to showcase 48 galleries. Despite Germany permitting the reopening of commercial spaces under 800 square meters, the need for social distancing clashed with the event's objectives. It has now been postponed to September 10-13, 2020. Several galleries, such as Isabella Bortolozzi, ChertLüdde, König Galerie, and others, will continue to operate. Additionally, new exhibitions are set to open in May at Wentrup, Peres Projects, Barbara Thumm, and Galerie Eigen + Art. Many galleries have also improved their digital offerings during this period. The decision to cancel was impacted by changing infection rates in Germany.
