Berlin Fashion Week 2022: Industrial Architecture Meets Sustainable Design
The Berlin Fashion Week 2022, one of the youngest and most innovative fashion weeks globally, took place across various industrial architectural venues in Berlin, emphasizing sustainability and emerging creativity. The event was organized by the Fashion Council Germany, led by Christiane Arp, former Editor in Chief of Vogue Germany, who highlighted scouting and ethical sustainability as key focuses. Sponsored by Mercedes Benz, the schedule opened with a show by Sofia Ilmonen, winner of the Hyères festival, at Kraftwerk Berlin, a former power plant built between 1960 and 1964, later reopened in 2006 by Dimitri Hegemann and his techno club Tresor. The Designer Studio & Atelier visits included a stop at Lobe Block/Terrassenhaus Berlin in Gesundbrunnen, designed by architects Brandlhuber + Emde, Burlon / Muck Petzet on a former Deutsche Bahn site. There, the vegan and sustainable brand Hund Hund, founded by Isabel Kücke and Rohan Hoole, opened its studio. The final event was at Hamburger Bahnhof Museum für Gegenwart in Moabit, a contemporary art museum housed in a former train station. The museum's collection, donated by collector Erich Marx, includes works by Joseph Beuys, Andy Warhol, Cy Twombly, and Anselm Kiefer. Designer William Fan presented a gender-fluid collection blending workwear and evening wear with new baroque details, featuring accessories like belts and limited edition 'All In One' bags made in collaboration with Klarna.
