Berlin CSD Vigil: Queer Muslims Defy Islamist Attack

Following an Islamist attack on the Berlin Christopher Street Day (CSD) parade, thousands gathered at Pariser Platz in Berlin-Mitte for a vigil organized by the FLINTA choir D-Dur Dykes*. The event drew between 8,000 and 10,000 attendees, who mourned collectively with candles, flowers, and rainbow flags. Among the crowd was Cenc*, a queer Muslim who expressed defiance: "As a queer Muslim, I won't let anyone take away either my queer identity or my Islam." The attack has intensified the struggle for identity among queer Muslims, who face multiple forms of discrimination. The vigil transformed one of Berlin's most famous squares into a site of shared grief, reflecting the community's resilience and determination to uphold both their sexual and religious identities.
