Berlin Biennale's 13th edition delayed to 2025 due to pandemic and crowded 2024 art calendar

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Originally scheduled for 2024, the Berlin Biennale's next iteration will now occur in 2025. The German Federal Cultural Foundation attributed this decision to organizational challenges stemming from the pandemic and concerns about a 'biennial super art year' in 2024. They anticipate intense competition for artists and resources, as many biennials postponed to that year. The previous edition, curated by Kader Attia, concluded in September 2022 and attracted more than 140,000 visitors. Launched in 1996 through the efforts of Eberhard Mayntz and Klaus Biesenbach, the biennial appoints new curators for each edition. The curator for the 13th edition remains unannounced. The event is held biennially at various venues across Berlin.
