Berlin Biennale 2016 Announces 120 Artists, No Italians

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The 9th Berlin Biennale, curated by the New York-based collective DIS (Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso, David Toro), will run from June 4 to September 18, 2016, under the concept 'The Present in Drag.' The curators have revealed the list of 120 participating artists but remain tight-lipped about specific projects. No Italian artists are included. Notable names appear across four sections: the main section, Anthem, LIT, and Not in Berlin Biennale. Venues include the Akademie der Künste, European School of Management and Technology (ESMT), the Feuerle Collection, and KW Institute for Contemporary Art. A boat tour on the Spree River will host an itinerant project. The biennial focuses on internet, communication, digital technologies, and advertising, with many collectives, collaborations, and anonymous participants.
