Bergonzoni and Viola Explore Birth, Death, Rebirth at Fondazione Mudima
Fondazione Mudima in Milan presents 'Vite Sospese', a dual exhibition featuring installations by Alessandro Bergonzoni and a video by Bill Viola, curated by Davide Di Maggio. The show juxtaposes Bergonzoni's medieval sword installation 'Attenzione! Incarichi sospesi (non sottostare)' (2024) with his 'Le culle dell'inciviltà' (2024), a floor of cradles visitors must walk on to reach Viola's video 'The Reflecting Pool' (1977). The works address themes of birth, death, and rebirth, with the cradle installation evoking children lost in war and migration. Viola's video, one of his earliest, shows the artist diving in fetal position without touching water, disappearing into the cosmos. The exhibition was adapted after Viola's death in 2024. Di Maggio cites Nietzsche and Robert Filliou, emphasizing art's role in transforming perception. The show runs at Fondazione Mudima in Milan.
