Berggruen Museum Brings Picasso and Matisse to Venice in Major Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-26

From March 24 to June 23, 2024, Italy will host over 40 pieces by renowned artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Klee, Giacometti, and Cézanne for the first time. This event, named "Affinità Elettive," is a joint effort between the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice and the Museum Berggruen in Berlin. The exhibition showcases interactions between the Gallerie's Venetian artworks and Heinz Berggruen's modernist collection, featuring notable pieces like Picasso's portrait of Dora Maar alongside Giorgione's "La Vecchia," as well as Giacometti's works paired with Canova sculptures. Additional displays will be at Casa dei Tre Oci on Giudecca Island. Public discussions are scheduled for March 24 and 25, while the Berggruen Arts & Culture hub at Palazzo Diedo will open on April 20, 2024, coinciding with the 60th Venice Biennale.
