Bergamo's gres art 671 Opens Monumental War-Themed Group Show
gres art 671 in Bergamo presents 'de bello. notes on war and peace', a monumental group exhibition exploring war as a cultural condition. The show features nearly 40 artists across seven centuries, from a 1496 panel by Jacopo Ripanda to contemporary video games. Co-curated by Francesca Acquati and studio 2050+, the exhibition is structured in five thematic sections: preoccupation, alarm, explosion, rubble, and resistance. Key works include Claire Fontaine's neon Sibyl, Arcangelo Sassolino's delicate equilibrium, videos by students guided by Laura Poitras on Sicilian military infrastructure, and two Persian carpets from the 16th to 20th centuries. The heart of the show is the 'Sala degli Arazzi' with four large-format fabric photographs by Gabriele Micalizzi depicting the Battle of Mosul, the 2018 Great March of Return in Gaza, the 2011 Arab Spring in Tahrir Square, and the Mariupol Theatre. Other highlights include works by Marina Abramović, Boris Mikhaïlov, Alfredo Jaar, Alberto Burri, Anselm Kiefer, Joseph Beuys, and a video by Daya Cahen on Russian female cadets. The exhibition runs from April 16 to October 12, 2025, accompanied by a public program from May to September.
