Bergamo's GAMeC to Triple Exhibition Space in Revamped Sports Palace
The new Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (GAMeC) in Bergamo has officially commenced construction, transforming the Palazzetto dello Sport into a museum that will see its exhibition area increase threefold. The design, created by C + S (Carlo Cappai and Maria Alessandra Segantini), is projected to take two years and cost €18 million, with funding sources including over €6.4 million from a PNRR grant and €6 million from Intesa Sanpaolo through Art Bonus. The museum's space will grow from 2,200 to nearly 6,000 square meters, incorporating a covered piazza, a panoramic restaurant, and enhanced urban features. Mayor Giorgio Gori highlighted its significance in revitalizing the area as part of Bergamo's legacy as the 2023 Italian Capital of Culture, with completion anticipated by 2026.
