Bergamo's deSidera Festival Returns with 30+ Performances
The 14th edition of the deSidera – Teatro e territorio festival will take place from June to October in Bergamo, Italy, featuring over thirty performances across various scenic locations in the Bergamo region. Most events are free admission. Co-artistic directors Luca Doninelli and Gabriele Allevi describe the program as drawing from the Gospels, Shakespeare, Homer, and Beckett, focusing on stories of heroes, saints, and beasts that both inspire imagination and reflect contemporary wounds. Highlights include the national premiere of Enoch Harden by Teatro degli Incamminati, based on Alfred Tennyson's 1864 poem about a sea and love story. Teatro delle Albe presents two works: Rumore di Acque, a monologue about migrant deaths in the Sicily Channel, and the preview of Maryam with Ermanna Montanari, which explores the Virgin Mary as described in the Quran and Palestinian women who invoke her. Arianna Scommegna performs Magnificat by Alda Merini, while Faber Teater offers Stabat Mater, an acoustic experience blending musical theater and sacred repertoire. Teatro dell'Orsa presents A Ritrovar le Storie, a poetic and humorous show for all ages. Angela Demattè performs Mad in Europe, a surreal story about a woman who goes mad at the European Parliament and forgets her mother tongue, speaking only a formless dialect. The festival's name derives from the Latin 'desiderare' (to draw auspices from the stars), symbolizing a connection between earth and sky.
