Bergamo DimoreDesign 2018: Five Designers Reimagine Historic Palaces

The fifth edition of Bergamo DimoreDesign returns to Bergamo, Italy, from September to October 3, 2018, intertwining design, art, and architecture. Five internationally renowned designers—Daniela Puppa, Matteo Bazzicalupo and Raffaella Mangiarotti (deepdesign), Odo Fioravanti, and Lorenzo Damiani—created site-specific installations in five historic palaces, open to the public every Sunday. A major novelty is the opening of the 16th-century Palazzo Polli Stoppani in Città Alta after 50 years of closure. Weekly evening talks moderated by art critic Giacinto di Pietrantonio feature the designers. Lorenzo Damiani's 'Innesti' at Palazzo Agliardi juxtaposes contemporary projects with the palace's 16th-century origins and 18th-century frescoes by Carlo Innocenzo Carloni and Federico Ferrario. Daniela Puppa's 'Tracce' at Palazzo Moroni uses glass objects to leave subtle traces within the 17th-century interiors. At Palazzo Polli Stoppani, curator Giacinto Di Pietrantonio selected prototypes from Persico, including seats by Fabio Novembre, Stefano Giovannoni, and Philippe Starck. Odo Fioravanti's 'Fil Rouge' at Villa Grismondi Finardi guides visitors with a red thread, comparing his designs with the villa's collection. deepdesign's 'L'anima sensibile delle cose' at Palazzo Terzi explores organic forms and functional complexity within the 16th-century palace featuring frescoes by Barbelli, Storer, and Tencalla.
