Bennington Legacy Sculpture Exhibition at Tower 49 Gallery Features Boepple, Witkin, Wolfe

exhibition · 2026-04-22

Tower 49 Gallery presents "Bennington Legacy: Sculpture by Willard Boepple, Isaac Witkin and James Wolfe" through October 29. Located at 12 East 49th Street between Madison and Fifth Avenue, the exhibition occupies lobby and exterior spaces of a Skidmore, Owings & Merrill-designed tower owned by Kato International. Guest curator Karen Wilkin organized the show exploring Bennington's role as a sculptural nexus. Willard Boepple, born in Bennington, and James Wolfe both assisted South African-born Isaac Witkin. Witkin's 1968 welded steel piece "Shogun" stands outside the glass and steel building. The sculpture's squat ziggurat and half-cone sections suggest origami-like flexibility. Tower 49 Gallery's program is directed by Ai Kato. The exhibition remains open weekdays from 9am to 6pm.
