Bennie Flores Ansell's 'Internal Migration' Explores Light, Identity, and Diaspora

Earlier this year, Bennie Flores Ansell, an artist originally from the Philippines and now based in Houston, showcased her solo exhibition titled 'Internal Migration' at the Ion District Gallery in Houston. The exhibition featured a variety of works, including dye bond metal prints, dichroic acrylic pieces, and 3D-printed wishbones derived from a CT scan of her collarbone. Ansell's artistic exploration focuses on themes of migration, identity, and transformation, often starting with photography. During a discussion with Morgan Page, she elaborated on her unconventional methods. Notable pieces included 'Wishbone Collection Boxes' (2023) and 'A Bakers Dozen of Pixels' (2026). Her art reflects her family's immigration narrative, touching on the Asian Exclusion Act of 1924. Ansell will also participate in 'La Photographie Comme Sculpture' at Immix Gallery, Paris, from September 17 to October 17, 2026, and present her solo exhibition 'A Particle and a Wave' at FLATS Presents, Houston, from October 8, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
