Benjamin Kahn's "Focu Meu" at Carreau du Temple, June 3-4

festival-fair · 2026-05-22

Choreographer Benjamin Kahn presents his new group piece "Focu Meu" at Carreau du Temple in Paris on June 3 and 4, 2025. Following a critically acclaimed trilogy of solos, including "Bless the Sound that Saved a Witch like me" shown at Festival Everybody 2024, Kahn now harnesses group energy to channel emotional eruption. The work uses the figure of the procession—funereal, festive, or militant—as a through-line, moving between sonic saturation and opaque silence. It invokes iconic "pleureuses" (mourners) and the therapeutic trance of the tarantella to uncover mechanisms of collective renewal. The piece asks how pain can be transformed into mobility, and shock into political drive. In a minimalist space where light and raw vocal sound act as protagonists, five performers embody choral bodies fractured by rhythmic ruptures and tensions between the intimate and political, expressing an irresistible urge to gather. "Focu Meu" conveys hope for a chorus in resistance. The piece is a co-production with Carreau du Temple and is supported by the French Ministry of Culture.
