Benigno Pendás to present two lectures on Enlightenment figure Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos in April 2026
Benigno Pendás, a political science professor at Universidad CEU San Pablo, will deliver two lectures exploring the life and thought of Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos (1744-1811). The Spanish Enlightenment figure championed education, political reform, and economic development. These presentations will preview Pendás's upcoming biography of Jovellanos, to be published in the Españoles eminentes collection. The first lecture, titled 'Jovellanos, siempre ilustrado,' is scheduled for April 28, 2026, at 6:30 PM. The second, 'Jovellanos, siempre patriota,' follows on April 30, 2026, also at 6:30 PM. Two-thirds of the online tickets will be distributed via lottery one week prior to the events. Remaining tickets will be available at the box office one hour before each lecture. The lectures are organized by Fundación Juan March.
