Benefit auction for Casa das Artes at São Paulo Waldorf school
A benefit auction organized by Escola Livre Areté, a nonprofit Waldorf school in São Paulo, will fund the construction of Casa das Artes, a new building for artistic and cultural activities. The catalog features works by established and emerging Brazilian contemporary artists, including photographs by Sebastião Salgado and João Farkas, pieces by Peticov, Brisa Noronha, Saturno (Emerson Rocha), Luiza Gottschalk, Auá Mendes, Luiz Martins, Carla Caffé, Soberana Ziza, Negana, Valter Nu, Carlos Motta, Hugo França, Francisco Brennand, Robinho Santana, Kiko Farkas, Mundano, and André Mogle. Deco Adjiman donated the first work, from Luis Maluf gallery. The selection, curated by Verinha Nunes, emphasizes Afro-Brazilian, Indigenous, and contemporary productions. Half of the proceeds from works by Black and Indigenous artists will go to the artists themselves. Pre-bids are open on the iArremate platform, with starting prices from R$2,500 to R$85,000. The final auction will be held online on May 16 at 3:30 PM. The architectural project for Casa das Artes was donated by Daniel Corsi, a parent. The building will include dance, music, orchestra, woodworking, applied arts rooms, a library, experimental kitchen, lab, and a 150-seat auditorium. The school, founded 12 years ago by a group of families, educates 270 children from preschool to 8th grade using Waldorf pedagogy. It is the first non-Indigenous student school in São Paulo to include Guarani language and culture classes.
