Benedikt Hipp: Body as Constant Transformation
Benedikt Hipp, born in 1977 in Munich, lives and works in Finning. He studied visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg, Munich, and Bologna between 2000 and 2007. His works have been shown at Haus der Kunst Munich, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, CAPC Bordeaux, Wilhelm-Hack-Museum Ludwigshafen, Kunstpalais Erlangen, and Kunstverein Hannover. In 2014, he won a Bavarian scholarship for the USA and lived in Amsterdam and Munich from 2015 to 2019. The body is a central theme in his paintings, sculptures, and large installations. Hipp explores individuality, identity, and the body as a site of architectural, social, and cult action. He states, "The body is a recurring theme in my work. I mostly move between painting, sculpture, and objects—between fiction and matter. Sometimes this interaction seems analogous to the daily conflict between our ideas and our physicality of flesh and bones."
