Benedetta Tagliabue on EMBT's Italian Projects and New Church in Ferrara
Architect Benedetta Tagliabue discusses EMBT's solo exhibition at Museo Novecento in Florence, featuring around fifty projects for Italy, on view until December 13. The show includes InesTable (1993) designed by her late husband Enric Miralles and the Dome chandelier (2015). Tagliabue reflects on the studio's work in Italy, noting that while many projects remained on paper, two are now advancing: a metro station in Naples and the Church of San Giacomo in Ferrara, built in wood with artist Enzo Cucchi. She praises the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale curated by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara for its 'Freespace' theme. EMBT also recently designed the exhibition 'Voglia d’Italia' at Rome's Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia. Tagliabue comments on the slow progress of the Ferrara church and the archaeological discoveries during Naples metro construction. She highlights the 'Scali Milano' regeneration project as a social success. In China, EMBT is completing a 33-story tower in Taiwan. Tagliabue advocates for gender equality in architecture, noting that women still face barriers to top commissions.
