Benaki Museum hosts 'In a Bright Green Field' exhibition exploring post-crisis futures through Greek and Cypriot artists
The Benaki Museum in Athens is hosting 'In a Bright Green Field,' an exhibition showcasing 29 emerging artists from Greece and Cyprus, all of whom draw inspiration from the 2008 Greek debt crisis. This event will take place from 12 June to 13 September 2025, focusing on themes of transformation, shared futures, and regional identity. Among the featured works is Byron Kalomamas's 'if you want to know about Change, first look at rivers' (2025), which includes a hydraulic device. Danae Io's 'Dial II' (2025) links colonial perspectives to Greece's financial struggles, while Raissa Angeli's '1989' (2025) contemplates Cyprus's geopolitical changes. Additionally, Marina Xenofontos's installation (2012/2025) employs reclaimed materials, and Damianos Zisimou's paintings pay homage to historical queer artists. Konstanza Kapsali's 2023 film 'Elsa & Olga' addresses the topic of aging, with water serving as a recurring theme throughout the exhibition.
