Belmond and Galleria Continua Launch Three Artist Residencies in Mallorca
Luxury hospitality brand Belmond, in collaboration with Galleria Continua, has announced an open call for three artist residencies at La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, in the UNESCO World Heritage village of Deià on the island of Mallorca, Spain. The residencies will take place from May to June, July to August, and September to October 2023, each lasting two months. Selected artists will receive flights, accommodation, a studio at the hotel, a monthly stipend of €500, and a production grant of up to €5,000. They will be asked to create an artwork to be displayed within the hotel. A prestigious jury from the art and hospitality sectors will select the participants. The deadline for applications is March 9, 2023. This initiative follows last year's Mitico residency at Belmond's Castello di Casole in Tuscany, which will be repeated. Deià has long been a haven for artists, writers, and musicians, drawn by the Tramuntana mountains and Mediterranean light. The hotel itself, housed in a 16th-century building, features period-furnished rooms, a permanent art collection, a sculpture garden, and offers painting and sculpture lessons by its artist-owners, which residency artists can also teach for a fee.
