Belinda Tanoto Launches Tanoto Art Foundation with Inaugural Exhibition in Singapore

institutional · 2026-04-19

Belinda Tanoto, an Indonesian art patron and managing director of Royal Golden Eagle, established the Tanoto Art Foundation (TAF) in Singapore. TAF's inaugural exhibition, 'Rituals of Perception,' opened in late January during Singapore's art week at New Bahru on Kim Yam Road, housed in the former Nan Chiau High School building from 1969. Tanoto, the youngest daughter of businessman Sukanto Tanoto, drew inspiration from her time in Shanghai from 2021 to 2024, where she visited cultural sites like the He Art Museum in Foshan, Guangdong. There, she saw American artist Roni Horn's cast-glass sculptures in a 2023 solo show, which influenced her philanthropic vision. The foundation aims to rejuvenate the art ecosystem, with Tanoto also serving on the board of the Jakarta-based Tanoto Foundation, founded by her parents in 1981. The New Bahru complex, a creative lifestyle destination, reflects Singapore's urban renewal since the 1960s, transforming colonial-era plantations into upscale areas like River Valley.
