Belinda Pollard transforms embroidery into poetic language

artist · 2026-05-03

In Angers, France, Belinda Pollard, an embroidery artist, combines traditional methods with innovative materials. After completing her fine arts studies and obtaining a master's degree in Brussels, she trained at La Fémis in Paris but felt a lack of connection to the film industry. In 2016, she ventured into embroidery, obtaining a CAP in art embroidery and mastering techniques such as crochet de Lunéville and gold work. Her creations incorporate gold thread, silk, exotic leather—often in collaboration with Hermès—and even fabric from her grandmother's sheets. Pollard considers gold embroidery to be both precise and enchanting, crafting abstract works inspired by maps and personal journeys. She also organizes artist residencies and plans to mentor an apprentice. Pollard established Maison Abel, and her artistry was highlighted on RFI's '100% Création' podcast.
