Beirut Recollections at Sursock Museum
The Sursock Museum in Beirut presents 'Beirut Recollections,' an exhibition pairing photographs from the Fouad Debbas collection with a digital video by ICONEM. The show explores how photographic inventions—from hand-colored postcards in the early 20th century to panoramas and stereoscopy—have shaped perceptions of cityscapes, using Beirut's ever-changing urban fabric as a case study. The ICONEM video, 'Reminiscence of a Moving City’s Many Stories,' was commissioned by UNESCO after the 2020 Beirut Port blast and stitches together 30,000 images to create a 3D virtual tour of heritage buildings. Re-edited for this exhibition, the video depicts Beirut in revival, lit by a mysterious light. The exhibition runs in 2023.
