Behavioral Matter Workshop at Centre Pompidou Explores Future Materials

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Between March 15 and 18, 2019, the Centre Pompidou in Paris was the venue for 'Behavioral Matter,' a workshop facilitated by EnsadLab alongside the Cluster 'Matters of Activity – Image Space Material' from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. This event was part of the exhibition 'La Fabrique du Vivant: Mutations/Creations 3,' which remains open until April 15, 2019. More than 70 participants engaged with 'behavioral matter' across twelve thematic tables. One discussion, led by David Bihanic, examined the 'Phenomenology of Data,' connecting Egyptian hieroglyphs to transformations from data to images. Among the notable attendees were Lorenzo Guiducci, Filippo Fabbri, Emanuele Quinz, Patricia Ribault, and Samuel Bianchini. The artwork 'Ècoumene v1-Victor Petit' by Lia Giraud and Claude Yéprémian features photosensitive algae that reproduce projected images through a process called 'algography.'
